Dudley Farm
This original Florida pioneer farmstead is just a short walk back in time from the busy highway, yet it transports the visitor to a by-gone era. It's sugar cane season! The cane stalks are coloring up purple, bronze, & gold & the cool weather makes us anticipate cane boiling & cooking on the wood-burning stove in the 1880s. Fall & winter are the tidying-up times at Dudley Farm when the 18 historic buildings get cleaned & repaired. The antique front yard roses are blooming again and the vegetable gardens have greens & onions & root crops growing. Walking around the historic homestead, you can see the turkeys, chickens, and Cracker cows typical of the farms of the late 1800s. Our staff, dressed in period clothing, work this living history farm while interacting with visitors. There are eighteen historic buildings in their original Florida setting. And the newest addition to the farm is the replacement of the hand pump near the well. We have a new history video: "The Legacy of Dudley Farm" to show you in the Visitor Center. Come enjoy this authentic Florida pioneer farmstead. |
